Rose Petal Vinegar
Herbs and flowers turn a plain vinegar into something special, and red roses are no exception. Rose Petal Vinegar is simple to make. Use organic, scented roses, and the darker the red, the better the colour of your Red Rose Vinegar. Always use a good quality vinegar – some taste really awful and the roses won’t be able to improve it.
Use your vinegar for more than a dressing for a green salad. One or two teaspoons of Rose Petal Vinegar really brings out the flavour of fresh berries, and I recently added some to an overly sweet pineapple and it was perfect.
Roses are excellent for older skins, and vinegar is good for all skin types. Pour some into a spray bottle and spritz twice a day. You can also add it to your bath water, but you will need at least one cup for a full bath, so make a lot if you want to do this.
This recipe uses red roses, but you could make it with another colour rose. The most important part is the scent. Change the vinegar to a white one if you use a pale shade such as yellow, green, cream or white. Apple cider vinegar works well with orange tinted roses for colour, but perhaps add a few yellow rose petals as orange ones have less scent.
And, if you don’t already have scented rose bushes, a trip to Ludwig’s Rose farm is such a treat. or, of course, you can take a well deserved trip to your local nursery. I’m sure you have done something today that requires a reward!
Red Rose Vinegar
This beautifully coloured vinegar gives a subtle taste and aroma to salads and is especially good with fresh berries. And, as roses are excellent for older skins, pour some of the vinegar into a spray bottle and spritz your face after moisturising. Red roses will give the best colour but you can make with any scented ones. If they are yellow or white shades use a white vinegar. If you want the colour to be darker, you can always cheat and add a couple of drops of food colouring

Ingredients
- 1 jar Scented, red rose petals, packed loosely
- 1 Red wine vinegar to cover the petals Use good quality vinegars for the best flavour
Instructions
- Pack the fresh rose petals into a clean glass jar
- Cover with the red wine vinegar. Screw the lid on and shake well to dislodge any air bubbles
- Top up with more vinegar if necessary. The petals must be covered
- Keep the jar in a light place, but not direct sunlight, for 3 weeks
- Strain the vinegar and discard the petals.
- Pour into a clean, sterilised bottle and label
