
Thyme is excellent for coughs, and this syrup combines the benefits of thyme, honey and molasses. I find commercial syrups contain so much sugar that they make the cough even worse, which doesn’t happen with honey. This syrup can be taken 1-2 tsp 3 times a day, or add it to warmed water and sip it over a longer period of time.
Thyme is an excellent treatment for coughs as it an expectorant and helps to expel mucus, as well as being anti-microbial, antiseptic and anti-spasmodic. Honey is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial, and a common ingredient in cough medicines. Molasses is naturally rich in antioxidants, iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and vitamin B6.
