Calendula, also known as Pot Marigold, is well known as a natural skin remedy and is now easy to find in many shops in creams, oils, lotions and lip ice.
Calendula is a beautiful plant, flowers well and gives a great splash of colour in winter. Grow your own, harvest the flowers and make your own skin care products.
Dry the flowers by laying them out on a basket or tray, out of direct sunlight.
This is a fabulous skin salve to keep in your first aid box. Use it on rashes, bites, cuts, sores and grazes
I prefer to use an emulsifying ointment in this salve as I find it makes a better protective seal on the skin. If you can’t find emulsifying ointment you can use Vaseline.
