In person seed swaps are amazing. You get new plants and seeds, you always learn something new and you meet fabulous gardeners who actually talk about the same things you do (not like family members who raise their eyebrows!)

But they aren't that common, convenient or close-by so I thought

That was in June 2024. I really hoped I could get 20 people to take part but it exploded into more than 100 participants from all over the country.

I did another swap in January 2025 and the number nearly doubled. The selection of seeds was astounding. There were 46 varieties of beans, tomatoes with magical names like Sunrise Bumblebee and Dancing in the Rain, herbs, flowers, trees, cacti and funky sounding plants like Voodoo Lily.

People were happily sharing these seeds with fellow gardeners and loving the new seeds they got back.

Gardeners always have way more seeds than they will ever plant, so in the June 2025 swap I asked everyone to send in any extra seeds they could find - we were going to share our abundance with community gardens.

Thanks to their generosity we were able to donate to three charities who help feed those in need.
